For Asian Heritage Month in May, a Gold Ribbon Campaign will be launched to show support and solidarity to stop anti-Asian racism. Reclaiming the color "yellow' that has been used historically to disparage our race will be celebrated by wearing yellow/gold ribbons. I am connecting with sponsors and supporting organizations to build momentum to the campaign.  A donation target is also initiated to raise money that will benefit, support, and strengthen Asian communities. This is an international campaign  #AsianGoldRibbonCampaign

So exciting to publish my first time in The Conversation.  Criminal justice needs a better understanding of childhood trauma (theconversation.com) It was picked up by the National Post, which makes me very proud to get the message out about the need for focus on criminal justice reform.  https://nationalpost.com/pmn/news-pmn/criminal-justice-needs-a-better-understanding-of-childhood-trauma The role of childhood trauma, trauma at any age in fact, has deletrious impact on our mental health and the knowledge of its role will reshape the way that we think about mental illness, its prevention, and most effective treatment strategies that include trauma focus. So much work has been done to bring this to light and so much more work that needs to be done. I am grateful for the opportunity to add perspectives and my voice to a non-academic audience.  Thank you for reading it!

Women's Mental Health, Childhood Trauma, and Murder

On January 13, 2021, Lisa Montgomery was executed by the federal government in the United States. She was the first woman in 68 years to be sentenced to death. This egregious miscarriage of justice prompted many to speak up in protest against the mistreatment of Lisa Montgomery. I was interviewed by Jessica Proeller for an article highlighting the issues and need for greater advocacy and awareness.  Mental Health and Trauma Influences on  Maternal Infanticide and Filicide I also published the following Manifesto/Declaration on my website in conjunction with the Marce Spanish Society of Perinatal Mental Health (MARES) and the Spanish Association of Perinatal Psychology (AEPP) : The Centre for Perinatal Psychology and Forensics (mmhforensics.org) My passion in this area grew from my work with  George Parnham, J.D.

On October 6, 2020, 11 authors joined me for the launch of our new book. It was an extraordinary event, one that I am so proud to have been a part of. The International MARCE Society for Perinatal Mental Health was so supportive to allow us 2.5 hours to showcase our book and the important work that is happening in this area around the world.  I hope you enjoy it! https://vimeo.com/465808299/209fba3b24?utm_source=email&utm_medium=vimeo-cliptranscode-201504&utm_campaign=28749

Ted Talk - On Becoming & Leadership

Image
In 2019, I was invited to give a 'Ted Talk' at the College of Alberta Psychologists and Psychologists Association of Alberta Annual General Meeting as one of their Enlightened Speakers on the topic of Leadership. That same year, I had the honor of sharing the Talk at Athabasca University with my colleagues in the Faculty of Health Disciplines.  I hope you enjoy the three stories of leadership in my life....  https://vimeo.com/402047282

Postpartum Support International 2020, Annual Conference

Image
This conference was scheduled to take place in New Orleans, but due to COVID-19, was offered via ZOOM Inc., and it was superb. PSI and Parthenon, did a wonderful job in making it all happen virtually. The Virtual Conference Experience This is my 4th PSI Annual Conference. They were in  Philadelphia (2017), Texas (2018), Portland (2019), New Orleans (2020, cancelled and went online). First, I thought that ZOOM was incredible in how they could set up sessions where the panelists/presenters speaking could be seen if their videos were on, but none of the attendees could be seen. The chat function was optional for the presenter to view (I chose to have mine off until the end so I wasn't distracted when I was presenting). Parthenon and the PSI Staff had their videos there too to support the presenters, but they weren't visible to the attendees. I found the ease of coming in and out of sessions, jumping back in, etc., to be so user-friendly. The presenters and attendees were not
